Origin: Once a part of Kingston, this area was called Kingston East Parish. It was granted a separate charter in 1738 after some residents petitioned Governor Jonathan Belcher of Massachusetts that its location was “too distant from the Kingston school and place of worship.”

Population Trends: East Kingston's population grew four times larger over fifty years, increasing by a total of 1,335 residents between 1950's population of 449 and 2000's population of 1,784 residents. Decennial growth rates were above the statewide average, ranging from a 19 percent increase between 1980-1990 to a 46 percent increase between 1960-1970. The 2004 Census estimate for East Kingston was 2,107 residents, which ranked 131st among New Hampshire's incorporated cities and towns.
