Incorporated: 1768
Origin: Seabrook was first settled in 1638 when it was part of Hampton. It was incorporated as a separate town in 1768, and named Seabrook after the Seabrook River. The boundary between Hampton and Seabrook was subject to periodic dispute for nearly two centuries, and was finally settled by court decision in 1953. Seabrook is now home to the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant, itself source of much dispute and controversy.

Population Trends: Seabrook's population grew well above the statewide average over four of the last five decades, growing over four times larger. Decennial growth rates ranged from a ten percent increase between 1980-1990 to a 94 percent increase between 1970-1980. Over fifty years, Seabrook grew by a total of 6,146 residents, going from 1,788 in 1950 to 7,934 residents in 2000. The 2004 Census estimate for Seabrook was 8,376 residents, which ranked 35th among New Hampshire's incorporated cities and towns.
